Still Fighting the Iraq War Decision

Eric at Learning Curve reminds me that the anti-Iraq War side continues to rewrite history with the epic bomb Vice, which trashes Cheney in the process of attacking the decision to destroy the Saddam regime. The war was justifiable whether you want to rest your case on national interest or responsibility to protect; it was legal with no lying America into war; and we won the war.

And it isn't just the movie Vice:

Hollywood raged against both President George W. Bush and the Iraq War for years until studios realized no one wanted to see more movies on the subject.

Think commercial duds like “Green Zone,” “Redacted,” “Grace is Gone,” “In the Valley of Elah” and “Lions for Lambs,” even if the latter focused more on the Afghanistan battles.

Along comes “An Acceptable Loss,” and it’s like filmmakers want to dredge up those Bush-Cheney arguments anew.

Eric has done thorough work on the issues leading to and related to the Iraq War in rebuttal to the narrative the anti-Iraq War side still tries to peddle. He highlights in particular this and this.

I will add that yes we won the war despite the constant complaints that we were losing, a victory which the Obama administration boasted about that is routinely overlooked today despite Obama initiating Iraq War 2.0 to defend what we won against the rise of ISIL.

Don't forget what we could have chosen instead of destroying the Saddam regime and defending the weak democracy we put in place.

At the time the anti-war side wanted "more debate" before going to war, and good Lord they continue to debate the decision to go to war to this day. And that is despite the fact that Democrats concluded well before the Congressional decision to go to war that Saddam had to go.

It's like a consensus based on law and reality never happened. Sadly, too many on the right are unwilling to defend the war against the false charges of the revisionists and would prefer to just forget about the war and move on.

Don't fall for the lies of the history revisionists.
