Supplying From Behind

The best troops without food, water, shelter, and ammunition will die pretty much as easily as adequate troops in the same situation. We remain the king of logistics.

Strategypage addresses our ability to move the goods, the civilian component of that capability, and the fact that our allies need our capabilities and even just advice:

One reason the United States often gets called on by its allies during military crises has nothing to do with weapons or combat, but with logistics. The U.S. has been, for nearly a century, the world leader in moving military personnel and cargo to where it is needed and doing so under the most trying conditions (of nature or enemy interference).

I noted our allies' need for our superb logistics and the civilian component recently. It's always nice to see Strategypage watch my 6.

People don't appreciate the value (or even existence) of this national asset for war and natural disasters, and why it is another piece of the puzzle of why we spend so much money on defense.
