A Little More Respect for McCain

Mitt Romney may have done better in the Electoral College (at least 206, with Florida pending) than John McCain four years ago (173), but McCain (59.9 million) won more votes than Romney (57.1 million).

Democratic enthusiasm was certainly down this year, since President Obama won 69.5 million votes 4 years ago and only 59.8 million votes this year.

I'm not the first to notice this, but if Romney had only generated the same enthusiasm as McCain (!) did, Romney would likely have won.

Where was the purported Republican enthusiasm this year? A lot of people clearly weren't willing to crawl over broken glass to vote for Romney this year.

I guess it helps to remember that in a country as large as ours, filling a hall or even a stadium with people isn't the hardest thing to do. And it doesn't necessarily mean much.
