A Feature and Not a Bug

North Korea has siphoned off UN money meant for aid (tip to Instapundit):

From at least 1999 to at least 2004, it appears the UNDP, and the U.N. itself, had no idea what Kim Jong Il did with the aid agency’s money, ostensibly intended for aid programs ranging from development of energy programs and small and medium sized businesses, and for environmental protection.

Is there nothing the UN touches that doesn't become corrupt?

Honestly, the UN may not be able to pour piss out of a boot when the instructions are written on the heel; but they can manage to funnel money entrusted to them to whatever thug dictator is near that money.

And as an aside, the UN (I mean America in large measure) funded environmental protection programs in North Korea? Yeah, that's a high priority item in a country that is starving and whose people are literally shrinking.

At least no North Korean children were raped by UN staff during the money transfers.

So that success is good enough for Progressives to celebrate the high moral authority of the authorized representatives of the vaunted international community!
